A Journey not a Destination

Career Planning is identifying what you're good at; how your skills, talents, and interests translate into work.

All students registered in a Period 2 class will also be enrolled in a Career Planning module. Extra time has been allotted to fulfill the requirements necessary for obtaining credit in this module. The goal for implementing Career Planning to Victoria High School students is as follows:

It is our hope that over the course of a student's three years in high school that not only will they be instructed in arts and core classes, but that teachers will assist students as they plan for their future with regards to Career Pathways and Post Secondary Institutions.

During your 2nd period classes, we will assist you in delivering activities that will support your students in preparing for their life after they graduate from high school. Upon completion of these activities you will be entitled to receive one credit.

The goal is for all students graduating from Grade 12 to have a Career Plan in place as well as a Career Portfolio that can be used to support them as they make the transition from high school to either the workplace or post secondary learning.

We are currently in the 2nd year of this is a three year process and as students complete the work required at each level they will receive one credit for each of the following courses:

Grade 10

CTR 1010 (Job Preparation)

Students develop successful employment search skills and a personal employment search portfolio.

Grade 11

CTR 2310 (Career Directions)

Students will update their learning/career plan, to enhance their career tool kit, and to update their action plan or strengthen essential competencies and learning capacity.

Grade 12

CTR 3310 (Career Transitions)

Students will build on work done in CTR 2310 and/or CALM and update their learning/career plan ensuring that their career tool kit can support them as they make the transition from high school in to the workplace or post-secondary learning.
